Owslebury School Newsletter - 2018 March

Hello from Mrs. Smith

I hope the snow didn’t inconvenience you too much and that you managed to get out and enjoy the snow with your children as it is not often we see it! Hopefully now the freezing conditions have disappeared, we can look forward to some well deserved Spring weather!

We have had an exciting week watching the Living Willow Dome take shape. The children worked hard in small groups to help build the dome and have learned many skills along the way. We now look forward to getting inside and using the space for some lovely moments and watching the willow change as the warmer weather approaches. A huge thank you to everyone for your continued support as Friends have kindly donated the money to allow this event to take place. A thank you also to the parents who kindly gave up their time to help during the week and a special thank you to Ganesh and Elaine.

Thank you for your time in attending parents evening which are valuable opportunities for you to discuss your children’s progress with the teachers, to celebrate successes and to find out targets that the children are working on.

It was also lovely to see many of you in school last week at the Mothers Day events and for the kind and constructive feedback that was given. We do try to act on any feedback we are given and it was lovely to note that the events have been improved from year to year. I hope you also had a lovely Mothering Sunday this weekend.

We look forward to a successful World Book Day Event this Friday when we hope you will be able to come into school and share some stories with your children.

Attendance Target 97%

Attendance Matters LogoOur current whole school attendance is 96.8% which is slightly below our whole school target of remaining at 97% or above.

Class attendance figures to date are: Marwell 96.5%, Morestead 96.7%, Baybridge 96.3% and Hensting 97.7%.

There has been an increase in the number of requests for holidays during term time. May I remind you that absence requests will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances and that no absences will be authorised during the KS2 SATs week (14th-18th May) or the Phonics Year 1 screening week (11th—15th June) or the period for KS1 SATs (1st—25th May).

Thank you for your continued support in ensuring that children are in school on time and for making any appointments outside of the school day.

Mothers Day Events

What a team!

Owslebury Tag Rugby Team

Huge congratulations to the Owslebury Tag Rugby team who took part in the annual Winchester Rugby Club Tag Rugby Tournament on Thursday 8th March.

In the group stages they faced tough opposition from Knightwood Primary, Shakespeare Infants, St Bede & Twyford St Mary’s. After playing some super rugby our team were delighted to make it to the semi-finals of the Plate Trophy. Wins against South Wonston and then St Bede saw our team through to the final . Despite a valiant effort against Otterbourne Primary we lost in the final. The team were superb ambassadors for Owslebury Primary school and brilliant sportsmen and women.

Well done to Will J, Mattie, Aaron Will S, Chandler, Ben, Jessica, Ava, Lily, Jen, Alex W and Jamie.

Sports Relief 17th—23rd March

Sport Relief 2018The school council have put together a week of lunchtime activities for the children to join in with for a cost of 50p for three goes.

The money will go to the Sports Relief charity and any contributions will be gratefully received. Further details have gone out via a letter from the school council.

Decorated Easter Egg Competition

Easter EggsI know we have lots of very creative children at Owslebury so put your thinking caps on and enter the competition. Decorate a hard boiled egg and bring in to school on Monday 26th March. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 28th March and eggs can then go home please that night (otherwise we will have a very smelly school on our return after the Easter holiday!)

Have your say

I would like to provide parents, carers and children with the opportunity to raise concerns, make comments about the school in general, share new ideas which may help other parents or the school, or simply have their say about a schooling issue.
