Owslebury School Newsletter - 2019 April

Hello from Mrs. Smith

As the term draws to a close, it has been lovely to reflect upon the learning that has taken place over the last month. Children in Marwell Class have enjoyed writing poetry and learning through play within the hairdressing role play area. Their confidence when reading aloud to a large audience in the Easter Service this week was a testament to the learning opportunities we are able to provide in our nurturing environment. Morestead Class have been focusing upon their local area and have developed their reading and writing skills through stories they have read in class. Baybridge Class have written some fabulous biographies about Howard Carter and developed their understanding of the Ancient Egyptians. Their clay canopic jars were particularly effective especially with the hidden messages tucked inside. Hensting Class have thoroughly enjoyed their topic on North America which has enabled them to have some thought provoking discussions in class. Year 6 children have also been working hard in their preparation for SATs.

A huge thank you to the parents who attended our recent Mothers Day afternoon, the children always enjoy taking part in activities with you in school.

For those of you that managed to attend the Easter Service this week, I hope you will agree how brilliantly the children read, sang and listened. Didn’t they look delightful in their hats too!. Thank you for your kind contributions to the collection which raised £45.03. This will go to our school charity.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter break and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 24th April.

Attendance Matters

Attendance Matters LogoOur whole school attendance for the period September to date is currently 95.8% This is below our school target of 97% and below the attendance for the same period of time last year.

I appreciate that children can get poorly from time to time, however it is important that you continue to make any medical appointments outside of school hours where possible and ensure your child is in school on time every day. There has been an increase in requests for time off for holidays too. Please remember that only absences for exceptional circumstances will be authorised.

Class attendance figures are:

Marwell 95.0%
Morestead 95.0%
Baybridge 96.5%
Hensting 96.2%

Red Nose Day

Thank you for helping us support this valuable event. The children enjoyed taking part in the activities and with all your donations, we raised £160. Thank you to everyone who supported this worthwhile cause.

Children’s Corner

Easter Bonnet Parade

The children put a lot of hard work into their bonnet designs which were amazing. It was so difficult to
choose winners from such a strong line up but our winners were Badger, Olive, Molly and Ruby. Thank
you for your support with this new event.

Safety

It has been noticed that before school when families are waiting in the parish hall grounds, that children are leaning on the fence near the road and swinging on it. Part of the fence is already broken and there are some panels which are currently being supported. We have already had an incident earlier on in the year when children slid down the bank into the path of oncoming traffic. Please can you ensure your children are waiting safely within the parish grounds.

Have your say

I would like to provide parents, carers and children with the opportunity to raise concerns, make comments about the school in general, share new ideas which may help other parents or the school, or simply have their say about a schooling issue. If you would like to make use of this facility, please complete the form below.
