Owslebury Primary School

The small Winchester Primary School making a BIG impact!

Autumn 1

Week 2 + 3

We have now started our first letter sounds in phonics!

On Monday after learning the phoneme 's' the children went on a hunt outside looking for the letters in our area. On Tuesday we brushed away the letter 'a' outside. We also learnt the sounds 'p' and 't'.

We have had a go at writing the sounds on our interactive whiteboard, as well as making the letters in sand, foam and also out of playdough.

In maths this week, the children have explored how numbers can be composed of 1s and investigated the composition of 3 and 4 e.g. seeing that 3 can be composed of 1 and 2. They also learnt that a ‘whole’ is made up of smaller parts and is, therefore, bigger than its parts.

During our balance bike session we practised travelling across a bench using our core muscles and also revisited how to walk safely with the bikes. As a challenge the children then tried riding between cones.

In understanding of the world we have been looking at where we live, types of homes and what country we live in. We also identified the United Kingdom on a world map.

Each week we open a new area for the children to learn and play in safely before tidying away. This week we have opened the sand tray and they have enjoyed making sand castles mixing the water and sand.

Week 1

This week in Marwell class we have been busy learning all the new school routines and the other little people in our class.

We took part in whole school playtimes and have already made some friends with children in other classes.

We have had our first PE session and stayed for lunch in the hall too.

We have been learning where all our lovely resources belong in our classroom and we also learnt some calm breathing exercises to do to get us ready to learn again.

We have painted our very own pebbles to show we belong at Owslebury.

It has been an amazing first week of school!
