Owslebury Primary School

The small Winchester Primary School making a BIG impact!

Winchester Primary School

Owslebury Primary School
is a hidden gem.

High up in the South Downs National Park and only a 10-minute drive from Winchester, Owslebury combines all the benefits of a small rural village school with academic achievements in the top 1% of primary schools nationally (2017 SATS results).

The large playground and field, with beautiful views over Winchester, offer plenty of space for sports and outdoor activities. But for many families it is the school’s small size which makes it such a special place for children to learn and grow.

With only 90 pupils, everyone in the school knows everyone else. Staff are able to give remarkable individual attention to each pupil’s needs – whether that means stretching gifted and talented youngsters or supporting and integrating those with special educational needs. Every child is genuinely valued within a tight-knit community.

Owslebury’s academic results have consistently been among the highest in the country in recent years. Ofsted rankings based on 2017 SATS results placed us in the top 1% of the 12,000 primary schools in England, and in the top five in Hampshire.

An impressive 100% of pupils met or exceeded the expected standard in reading and mathematics at the end of Key Stage 2. That included ranking second in Hampshire for the proportion of pupils reaching the higher standard for reading, writing and arithmetic in SATS.

Thanks to the work of our dedicated, talented and passionate staff we currently have a ‘good’ Ofsted rating, and are on the road map to achieving ‘outstanding’.

Owslebury welcomes new joiners after reception year, and they integrate very quickly. Colden Common is a five-minute drive away, Fair Oak and Winchester are around 10 minutes away, and we have many pupils from further afield.

We have a few places still available for September 2018, and we are always happy to welcome prospective families for a visit. Use the form below or call now for an appointment.

What our Parents and Pupils say

Owslebury Primary School parent

“When we moved here from London we couldn’t believe our luck with Owslebury Primary School. We were impressed by the high standards and the ambition, as well as the beautiful surroundings, of course, but just as much as that we were struck by how approachable and friendly the teachers were, and how tight-knit and happy the children are as a community. Owslebury has given our three children a rock-solid foundation, both educationally and socially.”

Former pupil, aged 15.

“Everyone knows each other. Everyone’s friends. You really get to know the teachers well. Owslebury was a really happy time for me.”

One parent's feedback to Ofsted, 2017

“A jewel in Hampshire’s education crown, which offers something very special to its children.”
