Autumn 2

Week 2

On Monday we started our new topic Frozen Lands.
We discovered the snug had been decorated in lots of icy colours with animals from the Arctic and Antarctic.
We dressed up, made snowflakes and worked as a team to rescue some animals that were trapped in the ice!

In maths we have been subitising to 4 and developing our vocabulary of more and less using the words 'fewer' and 'greater ' to compare quantities.

In phonics we learned 'y' and 'z' then looked back at the other letters we have learnt so far to made sure we were all confident with recognising and writing them.

We took part in a really special remembrance service outside Owslebury Church on Tuesday and the children sang a song and placed poppies on the ground to pay our respects.

This week we started off with a hook using sparklers! We spoke about how to use them safely and had a chance in pairs at holding them.

In phonics we have learnt the sounds j,v,w,x and the tricky words 'me' and 'be.’

In maths we have been naming and discussing the properties of 2D shapes. We played guess the shape, went on a shape hunt and compared differences between them.

In art we made firework patterns using marbles and mixed them to see what patterns and colours they would make.

In Discovery Time we have been drawing chalk fireworks outside, making shape pictures, printing fireworks using toilet rolls and playing firework snap!

We have also introduced a baby into our role play area to care for and feed which the children have thoroughly enjoyed.

On Thursday we took our learning outside as it was our ‘ Outdoor learning day,’
We focused on seasons and the changes we could spot for Autumn. We made Autumn pictures using natural resources and we went on an Autumn walk. We even enjoyed leaf throwing fun and dancing outside. We ended our day talking about Autumn by making a poster. We also spotted shapes outside and talked about the properties such as corners and sides.
