Spring 1 (2024/25) - Ancient Egyptians
Learning Forecast - Ancient Egyptians
Ancient Egyptians – A Cross-Curricular Adventure
This term, our learning is centred around our exciting topic: Ancient Egyptians.
English
In English, our work is closely linked to our history topic. We will be reading an engaging non-fiction text about life in Ancient Egypt, alongside two gripping stories: Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx and Time Slip Scarab. The children will be writing their own versions of these stories, as well as creating a diary entry as if they were living in Egyptian times.
We will also explore the features of non-fiction writing, focusing on the language and layout needed for a non-chronological report. In addition, some children will be working towards earning their pen licence, developing a neat, consistent and fluent handwriting style.
Our reading and comprehension lessons will centre around Flat Stanley & The Great Egyptian Grave Robbery, where the children will develop their inference skills, make predictions and deepen their understanding of characters and events.
History
Our topic begins with an exciting hook day to immerse the children in the world of the Ancient Egypt civilisation. They will learn where and when this era took place on a historical timeline and explore key features such as the River Nile, the pyramids, pharaohs, mummification, tombs and beliefs about the afterlife.
It promises to be a fascinating and engaging topic that will spark curiosity and enthusiasm for history.
Science
In Science, we will continue our learning about Living Things and Their Habitats. The children will explore a range of living things and learn about what they need to survive, making links between environments and the organisms that live within them.
This half term is set to be an exciting journey of discovery across all subjects, and we look forward to sharing the children’s fantastic work with you.
