Trip to Milestones Museum

On Tuesday 21st January, Morestead class had an exciting day out to Milestones Museum.

Once we arrived, we had some free time to explore the museum. It was fascinating to walk down old Victorian streets where we could visit different shops which displayed things from the past - bikes, cameras, transport and even sweets!

We then went inside a Victorian classroom. We heard about the very strict rules that children would have to follow and enjoyed doing some role play, pretending we were children at school in the Victorian era. We all agreed school now seemed much more fun!

In the afternoon, we completed two workshops. The first gave us the opportunity to explore different toys and games that would have been played in the past, such as hopscotch, tiddlywinks, cup and ball, hobby horses, pick up sticks, dominoes to name a few! Tiddlywinks was a firm favourite and something we will certainly have to invest in for future wet playtimes!

Our second workshop involved us investigating different toys and deciding if they may have been played with by our parents, grandparents or even great grandparents. We thought about the properties of these toys and tried to correctly plot them onto a timeline. We also used our investigative skills to solve clues about different toys, and had to hunt around a teddy museum to answer different questions.

We had a wonderful time at Milestones and now have even more knowledge to help us in our History lessons for the remainder of this term!
