Owslebury Primary School

The small Winchester Primary School making a BIG impact!

Geography

Intent:

At Owslebury, through our inclusive Geography Curriculum, we strive for our children to develop an enquiring mind, both for the world around us including its physical and human processes and also for the people and their place within it. Through engaging and challenging lessons we aim for children to develop skills that are easily transferable to other curriculum areas and that can be used to promote their own personal development.

At Owslebury our Geography Curriculum aims to encourage interest. It enables children to gain knowledge about the diversity of places and people and resources in the environment. It also allows for a deep understanding of the Earth’s physical and human processes.  Our curriculum also encourages children to develop geographical skills such as collecting and analysing data, using maps, globes and aerial photographs.

We want to foster a love for Geography not just from class-based learning, but through field work, off-site visits and through the use of our fantastic outside grounds. We hope that this thirst for learning about the world around them and its people will stay with children for life.

Geography Awareness Day November 2023

On Wednesday 22nd November we took part in Geography Awareness day at Owslebury.

In our house groups we developed our compass skills playing direction games using our wonderful school grounds and created our own maps discussing key features of maps.

We really enjoyed being geographers and spending time with children across all classes.
