Spring 2 - Minibeasts
On Tuesday, we were thrilled to be visited by Nancy, a former Owslebury Pupil, and her minibeasts. The tarantulas were fascinating and we loved seeing the stick insects. We asked lots of thoughtful questions such as "do tarantulas make webs like other spiders?".

We have had a fantastic Hook Day introducing our new topic for this term! This morning we wrote acrostic poems and answered some 'Who am I?' clues, before creating our own about different types of minibeasts.
This afternoon we learnt about different micro habitats that different minibeasts live in. We then went on a scavenger hunt around the school grounds to see if we could find any of these habitats...and if they had any minibeasts living in them! We found so many different types of insects and bugs and recorded them all using tally charts. Some of us even put our findings into a bar graph!
We also worked together as a whole class to create a wormery. We found 3 worms which we carefully placed inside and we will observe them in their new home over the next week, before we safely release them back outside again.
To finish the day we did some craft, where we used split pins to create some moving minibeasts!
