Spring 2
Pancake Day
To celebrate Shrove Tuesday we made our own pancakes. After discussing why we make pancakes on this day we watched a video about how to make them. We wrote our own shopping lists and gave them to Mrs Aylward so she could get us the ingredients. The next day we weighed and mixed the ingredients to make the batter and Mrs Emery cooked them for us.
Our favourite part of the whole process was eating them!
Space!
Our topic after half term chosen by the children has been space.
In our role play area we have a new space station with dressing up and the children have enjoyed taking on different roles to explore space. We also set up a photo booth where the children could take selfies with the ipad.
Our book of the week is a non fiction text about space so we spoke about the term non fiction and compared it to other texts we have shared before.
Later in the week, we shared the story 'Aliens Love Underpants' which we found super funny!
In maths, we have been looking at doubles using stem sentences to help us remember how to compose numbers. eg. 6 is made of 3 and 3 and 3 and 3 makes 6.
In the creative area we decorated pictures of planet earth using cotton buds and made rocket sun catchers using tissue paper. We also made space bottles using glitter tissue paper and water and enjoyed watching the patterns made as the glitter moved slowly as if it was floating through space.
In science, we learned all about the moon and did an experiment about how craters are made. We also used the parachute to show the moon going around the earth.
