Owslebury Primary School

The small Winchester Primary School making a BIG impact!

Autumn 1

Autumn 1 Ourselves and Our Local Area

Week 3

This week we have been enjoying the lovely weather and getting outside!

We have been writing our names again- building them, tracing and then writing them.

Outside, we have been building our muscles ready for writing by throwing bean bags into targets, exploring how to move boats down a tube using water and playing ball games.

Some of us decided to build an obstacle course around our outdoor area- it was challenging avoiding the shark infested waters!

We looked at colour mixing in art rolling marbles around a tub in paint and make marks in shaving foam during our messy play. We used these skills in our painting for the rest of the week.

As part of Drawing Club (a session where we share a story then draw a picture about it) we drew pictures of alien planets after sharing the story Alien's Love Underpants.

In preparation for the harvest service at church next week on Tuesday we painted and cut out fruits and vegetables for a class poster. We are also learning a song to perform.

In storytime we shared the book "The Great Big Book of Families" and spoke about the different members of our families.

We have definitely been embracing the Owslebury school values this week too- our teachers have noticed lots of collaboration.

Week 2

This week we have been getting to know one another with our topic "All About Me"
We have taken part in circle times (or "Shell Time" as they have taken to naming it) discussing our families and drawing pictures of ourselves.

We have taken part in daily maths sessions counting objects, singing the days of the week song and traditional counting nursery rhymes.

We have also enjoyed some mark making, even trying to write our own names.

In the creative area, we have made some self-portraits using paint and crayons. We enjoyed looking carefully at our features in the mirror.

In the mornings, we have been practicing our fine motor skills to "feed the animals" as well as sorting the objects into the correct animal mouth.

On Thursday afternoon, we explored the school grounds during "geography" by going on a scavenger hunt. There was lots of collaboration from the children and they were excellent at following the safety rules.

After lunch, we have been calming down by doing some monkey yoga. This helps us settle, ready for an afternoon of learning.
