Spring 1 - Toys

Hook Day

We have started our new topic with a very exciting hook day! We each brought in a toy of our choice so that we could set up our own Toy Museum. It was amazing to see the range of different toys that we enjoyed playing with: cuddly toys that keep us company and make us feel safe; models and dolls which we can role play with; toys which are special to us for sentimental reasons and even fun electronics as we had a remote control car which could climb the walls! We enjoyed discussing, exploring and carefully playing with these toys.

We then used our toys to help us complete some creative writing. After describing our toy (what it looked like, what it felt like and any special features it had) we then thought of an exciting story for our toy! Some came to life when the humans left and some went on an adventure!

We also did some DT, where we thought about different toys we liked and then designed our own brand new toy! We had lots of unique and exciting design ideas with lots of interesting special features to make our new toys stand out from others.

Throughout the day, we learnt some fun facts about toys! Did you know that 70% of the world's toys are made in China? We wondered where the toys that we were given at Christmas were made. We finished the day with a special treat by watching some of Toy Story. By seeing how they toys came to life and went on adventures, we are hoping this will inspire us in our own writing throughout this term!
