Spring 2

Week 6

To start off our week we were lucky enough to have a visit from local beekeeper Mrs Harford (Fred's Mum!)

Both Fred's parent helped us try on the bee keeping outfits and we learned about how to take care of bees and how to extract honey.

We have been learning about Easter and finding out how Christians celebrate Easter. The children enjoyed eating the hot cross buns!

Week 3 4 and 5

All About Minibeasts

We have been exploring with a sensory box where the children felt what was inside the box. After discovering it was some cooked spaghetti posing as worms we spoke about different types of minbeasts and where they can be found.

We shared some honeycomb and spoke about where it came from as well as how bees make honey and how they sting.

We also welcomed a new class pet. Rehomed from Ms Weston's house we now have a Giant African Land Snail in Marwell class. We have spent the week coming up with ideas for names as well as talking about how to care for them.

In maths we have been looking at number bonds to 10 using hoops and balls and in the creative area we explored printing with cooked spaghetti..

We also enjoyed lots of fun in the snow!

Week 2

This week we have been sharing the book 'Dear Zoo' by Rod Campbell.

They children enjoyed helping us read it aloud to the class using their phonics knowledge. We then took part in lots of different activities about these animals.

Outside the children have been finding one more than a number by rolling the dice and squirting the number that was one more using water squirters. They have taken part in small world play indoors and in the sand tray using the safari animals developing their speech and communication skills as well as their understanding of the world talking about animal characteristics.

All the children enjoyed World book Day. It was lovely to see them reading with their siblings and parents.

Week 1

What a busy first week back we have had!

At the beginning of the week we took part in different Pancake Day themed activities.

Some children made their own pancakes using play dough in the role play area and explored different toppings! They also cut out different pancake toppings to develop their cuttings skills and after reading the story 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes' some of them retold the story using masks. We also had a pancake race outside which was lots of fun! Ozzy was the judge.

On Thursday the children enjoyed their safari which was part of the hook day. They started off by making binoculars and thinking about the animals they might see. In the afternoon they boarded the plane for the flight to Africa where they went on safari! The children all enjoyed themselves and spotted lots of animals! This will launch their new topic of animals.
