Autumn 1 - Once Upon A Time

 🏰Morestead Class Fairy-Tale Hook Day  🏰

Our term began with a sprinkle of magic as Morestead Class stepped into the enchanting world of fairy tales for our special Hook Day. The classroom was filled with excitement as children arrived dressed as their favourite storybook characters. We had princesses, little pigs, brave wolves, and even a few Red Riding Hoods—much to the delight of the children who loved stepping into these familiar roles! 👸

Throughout the term, we explored a range of classic stories, beginning with Dick Whittington. The children learned the tale using their memory skills to sequence the events visually. They created their own pictures and captions to retell each key moment, showing wonderful recall and understanding of the story.

We also spent time with the well-loved tale of Little Red Riding Hood. One of our tasks involved adding the correct punctuation to a copy of the text—an activity that really boosted the children’s confidence in reading and writing. Many of them especially enjoyed dressing up as the Big Bad Wolf  🐺 or Little Red Riding Hood while acting out the story!

Another class favourite was The Three Little Pigs 🐷. The children made their own puppets and used them to retell the story through play. We even built houses from blocks, straw and paper, then tested their strength as the “Big Bad Wolf” 🐺—powered by a hairdryer—tried to blow them down. This hands-on activity brought plenty of laughter and learning as the children explored materials, design, and storytelling all at once.

Across the term, the children have embraced these classic tales, exploring how they are written, how illustrations support meaning, and how imaginative language brings stories to life. Using all this inspiration, they finished by creating fairy tales of their own—full of creativity, character, and charm.

It has been a magical term in Morestead Class, full of storytelling, imagination, and joyful learning.
