Spring 1 - Mayan Civilisation
Maya Hook Day
The children had a wonderful day learning about the Maya civilisation. We began by using an atlas to locate Central America and identify the different countries where the Maya once lived. The children then explored Maya gods, choosing one or two to research and create informative fact files.
After break, we investigated Maya mathematics, discovering how it differs from our own base-10 system, as the Maya used a base-20 number system. The afternoon session was more creative, as we learned about traditional Maya masks before the children designed and created their own unique masks.
